Running above No Name Lake

Broken Top and No Name Lake

Trail and running books usually show just the

Don't bonk.

Park early. This is a fairly popular trailhead. Or at least the one we started at. The trailhead we chose is sketchy. Once you get a little ways out from the trailhead the crowds

It was good to see a few other runners out on the route. Our main loop is apparently frequented by Bend area trail runners. Not surprising. We saw fewer once we hit the out and back to the north.

Crossed a few snowfields. Millions of butterflys were hightailing it through the area. They gave a warp speed through starfield vibe at times.

Propper trail ends but by July we had a well worn seasonal trail that was easy enough to follow.

I'd say to take in the solitude at the lake... but there won't be any. Plenty of people on a georgeous day. But it could be worse. You'd be cheating yourself if you don't head past the lake and up again to a ridge that looks over The Three Sisters and north, clear to St. Helens.

Trip back to the loop is a pleasant little jaunt that doesn't have much technical stuff and has a reasonable slope. Be sure to slow for hikers on their way up so as not to cover them with dusk and grit. Don't be a trail dick.
